The Master Alignment

Almost no one has heard the word transcendental. Almost everyone has heard Jesus answer the question about the greatest commandment: love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. That answer is a fourfold description of a whole person, and it is the ground this quiz stands on. Behind it stand the four oldest names for what draws that person, the One, the True, the Good, the Beautiful, and behind those, twelve patterns of four that all line up.

The spine

Asked which commandment is greatest, Jesus answers by counting to four

Love the Lord your God
with all your heart,
with all your soul,
with all your mind,
and with all your strength.

Mark 12:30. Heart, soul, mind and strength are not four moods. They are the four powers by which the Good, the One, the True and the Beautiful are actually received: the Activist, the Mystic, the Philosopher and the Artist. Four real doors, not four preferences.

The four archetypes

Twelve patterns of four, laid over one another until they line up

Everyone carries all four. Read a column straight down and you have one whole soul, described twelve ways. Read a row across and you have one of the twelve questions. Tap an archetype to bring its column forward while you talk it through.

Inside family III

DISC, sitting on the same four temperaments

The language most clients already know from work maps cleanly onto the oldest map of human disposition. Same four, different century.

D
Dominance Choleric · Activist

Drives, decides, takes the hill. Wants the result and wants it now.

I
Influence Sanguine · Artist

Persuades, enlivens, gathers people. Works through warmth and expression.

S
Steadiness Phlegmatic · Philosopher

Steadies, listens, keeps the peace. Slow to move, hard to shake.

C
Conscientiousness Melancholic · Mystic

Examines, refines, holds the standard. Depth before speed.

The roots

Where each family of four comes from, and why they line up

I

The Gospel command

Mark 12:30, the fullest description of a person in the Gospels

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. Asked which commandment is greatest, Jesus answers by counting to four. Most people have never heard the word transcendental. Almost everyone has heard this. It is the strongest ground the quiz has, so it stands first.

Question 12, strengths
II

The transcendentals

Classical philosophy, Plato through the scholastics

The One, the True, the Good, the Beautiful. Four names for what every mind and heart reaches toward. Not a private religious claim: a conversation thousands of years old that no single tradition owns. Half the questions in the quiz are this one pattern asked in ordinary clothes.

Questions 9, 1, 10, 8, 11 and 7
II a

The four faculties

The powers of the soul, where the two frames meet

The spirit, the mind, the heart, the senses. This is the hinge: soul, mind, heart and strength from the Gospel command are the same four powers by which the One, the True, the Good and the Beautiful are received. Four real doors, not four preferences.

Carried in every column heading
III

The elements and the temperaments

Empedocles, then Hippocrates and Galen, carried into Christian spiritual writing

Water, air, fire, earth, paired with melancholic, phlegmatic, choleric, sanguine. The oldest map of the material world laid over the oldest map of human disposition, and they hold: depth, height, heat, and ground. DISC is the same four in modern dress.

Questions 2 and 4
IV

The four living creatures

Ezekiel 1 and Revelation 4, the four faces around the throne

The human face, the eagle, the lion, and the ox. Here the human face is carried by the dolphin, so the set reads as one family of creatures and stays gentle for a first-time reader, while the eagle, lion and ox stay exactly where tradition puts them.

Question 3, animals
V

The inner archetypes and their witnesses

Jungian depth psychology: King, Warrior, Magician, Lover

The Sovereign who orders, the Warrior who acts, the Magician who knows, the Lover who feels. The King is named the Sovereign so the pattern speaks to everyone. Four lives from the wider world stand beside them: Socrates, Gandhi, Rumi, Leonardo.

Questions 5 and 6
V a

The two ranks of witnesses

Four from the wider world, four from the Church

Rumi, Socrates, Gandhi, Leonardo. Then John of the Cross, Aquinas, Teresa of Calcutta, Dante. The same four ways of reaching God, once outside the Church and once within it, so the pattern is shown to be older and wider than any one house.

Questions 6 and 7
Fixed

The four colors

The visual signature, fixed and never varied

Mystic teal. Philosopher blue. Activist red. Artist orange. The same four colors in the quiz, in the results, in the pie chart, and here.

The raw points

First choice four points, then three, two, one. Each archetype lands between 12 and 48, and the four always total 120.

4 · 3 · 2 · 1  →  12 to 48 each  →  120 total

The bars: how loudly each voice sings

Each gift scaled to its own range, so first every time reads 100 percent and last every time reads 0.

(raw − 12) ÷ 36 × 100

The pie: how the energy is shared

Each archetype's slice of the whole, the four adding to 100 percent. Perfect balance reads 25 four times.
